The fingerprint scanner on your HP 6910P offers extra security for your notebook as well as a quick way to log on to your computer and access web sites that require passwords. After you have your laptop up and running, you can register your fingerprint. When your fingerprint is registered, you can also set it up to sign in to web sites that require passwords, using a tool called "Single Sign On." Multiple users can register their fingerprints on the computer.

Skill level:
Moderately Easy

    Register Fingerprint

  1. 1

Click "Start," "All Programs," "VeriSoft" and then "My Identity." Select "Register Credentials" to open the wizard. You can also swipe your finger perpendicularly over the metal sensor on the fingerprint reader to launch the fingerprint set-up wizard. VeriSoft was installed when you set up your computer.

  2. 2

Enter the user name and password you use to log on to your computer.

  3. 3

Click "Next," and then click "Fingerprints (registered)" to open the "Enroll Your Fingerprints" window.

  4. 4

Place a finger on one of the two hands displayed to enrol that fingerprint.

  5. 5

Swipe your selected finger over the reader at least four times. You must swipe your finger in the same direction each time. Each of the squares on the screen changes colour when you have swiped your finger successfully. A message appears if your finger swipe is not successful.

  6. 6

Select a second finger and repeat the process in Step 5 when prompted. VeriSoft recommends registering two fingers.

  7. 7

Click "Next" to verify you want to save the fingerprints. You can now swipe your finger to log on to your computer rather than type your user name and password.

  8. 8

Repeat the above eight steps if more than one user is registered on the computer. Each user must have a unique user name and password.

    Single Sign On

  1. 1

Click "Start," "All Programs," "VeriSoft," "My Identity," "Settings and Options" and "General Options."

  2. 2

Check the box next to "Use VeriSoft to sign in to Windows" if it isn't already selected.

  3. 3

    Click "Apply."

  4. 4

Select "Single Sign On" in the "Settings and Options" window.

  5. 5

Check all boxes except "Do not show hint window," and click "Apply."
