The Mobile Equipment Identifier (MEID) number on your iPhone identifies the device on a wireless network. The number is 14 digits long and contains a manufacturer code and serial number. The MEID number replaces the Electronic Serial Number (ESN) for mobile device identification. On a mobile phone, you can usually find the MEID number on the back of the phone or below the battery. However, on an iPhone, you can locate the number in the device's "Settings" menu or via the iTunes application.

Skill level:
Moderately Easy

    On the iPhone

  1. 1

Tap "Settings" on the "Home" screen.

  2. 2

    Tap "General," then tap "About."

  3. 3

Scroll down the window until you see "MEID." The MEID number is to the right of "MEID."

    In iTunes

  1. 1

Connect your iPhone to your computer with its USB cable.

  2. 2

Launch iTunes if it does not automatically open.

  3. 3

Click "iPhone" under "Devices" in the left column of the window.

  4. 4

Click the "Summary" tab, then click "Phone Number" in the "iPhone" section. The MEID number displays. If you don't have your iPhone, you can still find the device's MEID number in iTunes. Click "Edit" on the iTunes menu bar in Windows, or click "iTunes" on the menu bar in Mac OS X.

  5. 5

Click the "Devices" tab, then hover the cursor over an iPhone backup in the "Device Backups" box. The iPhone's MEID number displays.
