The default theme for a new Tumblr blog includes a sidebar on the right side of the page. The sidebar displays your profile photo, a search field and links to resources such as your blog's RSS feed and archives. You can add to the Tumblr sidebar by installing widgets, and developers have created widgets for every conceivable function from photo streams to online shopping. Install a Tumblr widget by pasting the code in your blog's customisation page.

Navigate in your Web browser to tumblr.com/dashboard. Enter your account credentials to log in if prompted.
Click the name of your blog at the top of the page, and then click "Customize Appearance" on the right. This displays the customisation page for your blog.
Click "Info" in the upper-left corner of the screen. This displays a drop-down menu with an area for you to enter custom code.
Highlight the code for the widget that you want to install by clicking and dragging with the mouse pointer. Press "Ctrl" and "C" simultaneously, or right-click the highlighted text and select "Copy."
Right-click the field labelled "Description (or HTML and widgets)" on the Tumblr customisation page, and select "Paste" to paste the widget code into the box.
Click the "Save + Close" button.
