Mobipocket is a widely used format for e-books, identified by its .mbp file extension. The format can be read on a variety of mobile devices, as well as Linux, Mac OS X and Windows machines. Following Amazon's purchase of Mobipocket in 2005, the format has even served as the basis for the Amazon Kindle's proprietary format. Despite Mobipocket's wide support, in some circumstances a plain text file may be more desirable. In a few simple steps a Mobipocket file can be converted to a text file.
