Many newer monitors like the LG PC monitors come with USB ports into which devices such as printers, MP3 players and speakers can be plugged. These USB ports function just the same as USB ports on the computer do and serve to extend the number of available USB ports you have between the computer and the monitor. To use the USB ports on your LG monitor, you must first properly connect the monitor's USB cable to the computer.
Purchase an upstream USB cable if your monitor did not come with one. Upstream USB cables are used to connect the monitor's USB ports with the computer so that the computer recognises what is plugged into the USB ports on the monitor.
Plug the upstream USB cable into the back of the monitor.
Plug the other end of the USB cable into an available port on your computer.
Plug the USB cable for the device that you want to connect into the LG monitor's USB port.
Plug the USB cable for additional devices into the LG monitor's remaining USB port. The devices appear on your computer just as they would if plugged directly into the computer.
