How to Make a Beaded Browband

Brow bands can be purchased in black or brown leather or vinyl. Choose the size that is appropriate for your horse. Strands of beads and decorations are added to the front of brow bands. Most brow bands have jump rings already attached for holding the bead strands. Create your bead strand design so that it matches other items used for the costume. Use a mixture of colour and metallic beads to make the bead strands.

Instructions

  1. 1

Measure the distance from one ring on the brow band to the ring on the other end. This will be the size of the bead strand.

  2. 2

Lay out the beads in the chosen design, alternating colour beads with metallic beads.

  3. 3

Thread the beading needle with the correct size bead thread. Size 0 or 00 can be used as long as the thread fits through the centre hole of the chosen beads.

  4. 4

Insert the needle into the open side of a bead cap and bring it through the bead cap and into the jump ring. Bring the thread through the jump ring and back down into the bead cap.

  5. 5

Tie two knots in the end of the thread and secure it in place inside the bead cap.

  6. 6

Thread on the beads in the design that was laid out. Add a bead cap at the end of the bead strand.

  7. 7

Bring the thread through the bead cap and into the second jump ring. Bring the needle out of the jump ring and back down through the bead cap and through the last bead on the strand.

  8. 8

Tie off and cut the loose end of the thread beside the last bead, making it as invisible as possible.

  9. 9

Attach a lobster claw clasp to the jump rings on both ends of the bead strand, then attach the bead strand to the brow band.
