Making friendship bracelets is a simple and exciting project. Many children make these bracelets with the intent of giving them to friends or loved ones as a gift to show how much they appreciate their relationship. Making friendship bracelets with words stitched into them can be a more difficult process, and often must be done with the help of a friendship bracelet letter chart for guidance. However, once the bracelet is finished, it holds whatever message you desire to communicate to your friend with a homemade bracelet.

Choose the two colours you want for your friendship bracelet. Choose colours that contrast each other nicely so it is easier to see the wording in the bracelet. Cut each of the 10 background strings 100 inches long and cut the one letter string.
Fold the strings in half and tie a knot at the halfway mark so all the strings are bundled together. Secure the knot in place with a clipboard. Spread the strings out so they lie straight on the clipboard.
Learn the two different kinds of knots: right knots and left knots. To make a right knot, take the working string on the left of the still string and loop the working string around the still string, so the working string comes out on the left. Repeat this and pull the string tight.
Practice making a left knot. Hold the working string to the right of the still string and loop it around the still string so the working loop comes out on the right side of the still string. Repeat this one more time and pull it tight to make a left knot.
Study the letter patterns for making words via the string knots. The patterns can be complicated and you must be able to make left and right knots to form the words. To form the letter "L," for example, you must make one right knot with colour A, eight left knots with colour B, and one right knot with colour A. Move on to the next line of knots and make eight left knots with colour A, one right knot with colour B and one left knot with colour A. On the third line, make one right knot with colour A, one left knot with colour B and eight right knots with colour A. On the fourth line, make eight left knots with colour A, one right knot with colour B and one left knot with colour A.
