Facebook's search engine makes it easy to find other members on the site. Once you are signed into your account, the search engine is available on every Facebook screen. Searches are private, so no other member will ever know if you search for her or view her profile. If the person you are searching for has a fairly common name, search filters can help you shorten the list of applicable search results.

Skill level:

  1. 1

Type your search terms in the "Search" field at the top of your Facebook screen. Click the "See more results" link at the bottom of the results drop-down menu.

  2. 2

Click the "People" tab in the left column of the screen to narrow the results to people only, eliminating the results that include groups, pages and apps.

  3. 3

Click the "Location" button at the top of the search results. Select "Location" from the drop-down menu and enter the name of a city in the field immediately to the right of the menu to narrow search results by a specific location. Hit "Enter" to execute the search.

  4. 4

Click the "Location" button and select "Education" or "Workplace" from the drop-down menu to narrow results to Facebook users who list a particular school or company on their profile. Enter your search terms in the field immediately to the right of the button and hit "Enter."

  5. 5

Click "Add Friend" to the right of a person's name to send her a friend request.
