Both European and Asian dragons have horns and they are one of the features that give dragons their chimerical quality. If you are planning to cosplay a dragon for a convention or a skit, take the time to make yourself a pair of dragon horns. Simple dragon horns are an easy project and several sets can be made quickly.

Instructions

  1. 1

Crumple a piece of aluminium foil into a solid cone that is between 1 to 2 inches high. Make 2 of these cones.

  2. 2

Smooth a thick layer of air-dry clay around the aluminium foil, covering it completely. You now have 2 cones made of air-dry clay.

  3. 3

Pierce both horns through the base, from one side to the other, using a long nail.

  4. 4

Allow the horns to sit and cure. The air-dry clay's packaging will tell you how long this should take.

  5. 5

Cut a length of leather cord that is about 3 feet long.

  6. 6

String one of the dragon horns onto the leather cord so that there is about 1 foot of cord on one side and 2 feet on the other side of the horn.

  7. 7

Tie knots on either side of the horn to hold it in place.

  8. 8

Tie a knot 5 inches from the horn on the string on the length of cord that is longer.

  9. 9

String the other dragon horn onto the cord so that it is snug to the newest knot.

  10. 10

Tie another knot next to the second horn holding it in place. Wear the horns by tying them to your head, the base snug to your scalp.

Tips and warnings

  • Shape the horns with a butter knife to give them a spiral twist.
  • Paint the horns with acrylic paint to give them some colour.
  • You may also use polymer clay to make dragon horns, though they need to be baked before being strung.
