After using an e-mail program for years, it may seem a daunting task to switch to another, especially if you cannot easily convert your many saved files. Though Mozilla's Thunderbird and Microsoft's Outlook e-mail clients are not compatible, it is possible to import Thunderbird's MBOX files into an Outlook PST file with one extra step -- converting to EML. Fortunately, this can easily be done with the use of a free utility.

Instructions

    Convert MBOX format to EML

  1. 1

Download an MBOX to EML utility (see Resources). Click to open the program. There is no need to install this simple utility since it is an "EXE" file and runs automatically.

  2. 2

Click the "Add" button. Choose an individual "MBOX" file or multiple files for extraction. Click "Open" and then "Process."

  3. 3

Navigate to the destination directory where you would like to save your extracted EML files. Click "OK." This extraction process can take a while.

    Convert EML format to PST

  1. 1

Click the "Start" button and select the "Outlook Import Wizard."

  2. 2

Select PST file or default Outlook storage as the destination.

  3. 3

Navigate to the main folder where EML files are stored. Click "OK" and then "Start." The wizard will now import your EML messages into a PST file ready for you to open in MS Outlook.
