How to make a pole spear

A pole spear is a fishing tool used to spear fish underwater. While some fishing spears are propelled by power slings and even pneumatic guns, the pole spear is a single entity that consists of a spear and a rubber loop at the end of it. You can purchase pole spears at fishing stores, but you can also make one yourself, starting with a fibreglass arrow.

Things you need

  • Fibreglass arrow
  • Pliers
  • Scissors
  • Shoelace
  • Replacement slingshot band
  • Electrical tape

Instructions

  1. 1

    Pull out the fletching in the arrow with pliers.

  2. 2

    Cut the shoelace so that it is approximately 9-inches long.

  3. 3

    Tie the ends of the shoelace around each end of the replacement slingshot band using a constrictor knot. See Resource 1 for instructions on how to tie a constrictor knot.

    Wrap the knots several times with electrical tape to secure them.

  5. 5

    Lay the shoelace against the arrow about three inches away from the fletching end.

  6. 6

    Attach the shoelace to the end of the arrow by wrapping electrical tape around it and the arrow. Apply at least two wrappings of electrical tape to hold it in place.
