How to read an etl file

Updated July 19, 2017

An ETL file is an Event Trace Log File. This file keeps track of events on your computer such as page faults. If you want to read the file to get information about processes on your computer such as various errors and disc usage, you can do so by using the program "Event Viewer." This program is built into the Windows operating system, so you won't need to download any additional software to read an ETL file.

Click "Start" in Windows, and then select "Control Panel."

Open "System and Security" and click "Administrative Tools."

Double-click "Event Viewer" to open the program. Double-click on the ETL event log file on the left to open it.
