How to apply UV gel nails at home

Updated February 21, 2017

UV gel nails are applied over your natural nails in a similar fashion to nail polish. A clear application, it gives the natural nail the durability and strength of acrylic tips -- they help protect your nails from excessive wear and tear. The nail bed should be cleaned and filled prior to applying the UV gel nail. UV rays must penetrate the polish for it to cure properly. Therefore, no more than two coats should be applied; anymore will make the gel cure unevenly.

Brush a layer of UV gel nail on your nails. Apply a thin layer and avoid applying the gel on your cuticles.

Place your hand under the UV light and allow the gel to dry for five minutes. Repeat for your other hand. Apply a second coat of UV gel nail on the nails of both hands.

Place your hand under the UV light again and do the same for the other hand. When the gel is completely dry, apply a clear topcoat and allow to dry.

Apply cuticle oil to your nail bed.

Remove any nail polish prior to following these steps.
