Part of the Terrier Group of dogs as defined by the American Kennel Club, miniature schnauzers are often recognised for their dignified appearance, including the long whiskers on their faces. Purebred miniature schnauzers typically range in height from 12 to 14 inches. Dogs that are shorter or taller than that height do not meet the requirements for competitions sanctioned by the American Kennel Club or The Kennel Club. If you are considering entering your dog in a competition, it is important to accurately measure its height.
Stand your miniature schnauzer on a flat surface, such as the floor or a table.
Level the yardstick on the floor or table and hold it up to your dog's front leg. The yardstick should be placed next to the side of the dog's paw and along its front leg.
Place your hand on the miniature schnauzer's shoulder closest to the yardstick, and read the measurement on the yardstick where it meets the bottom of your hand. Miniature schnauzers' heights are taken from the floor to their shoulder.
