"Call of Duty 4" is a first-person shooter for the PlayStation 3. Players can play either in the single-player campaign or online on the PlayStation network. Some players have reported a bug that does not allow them to join games on the PS network. They see the message "Downloading Game Settings" but the download never completes. This error may be caused by your router blocking the ports required for COD 4 to download information from the PlayStation network.

Skill level:
Moderately Easy

  1. 1

Load "Call of Duty 4" and connect to the PlayStation network.

  2. 2

Select the option to find a game so that you receive the error "Downloading Game Settings."

  3. 3

Shut down your PlayStation 3 from the switch on the back of the console.

  4. 4

Reset your router by unplugging it and waiting 20 to 30 seconds.

  5. 5

Reconnect the router and turn on your PlayStation 3.

  6. 6

Load "Call of Duty 4" again, and the problem should no longer persist.
