Silicone is a polymer that often has a rubber-like consistency. You'll find silicone in products such as sealants, lubricants, cookware and even medical applications, like breast implants. Silicone products are made by synthesising silicon, a common element found on our planet, with carbon to create a strong and versatile material. Once the material is synthesised it can be made into products that are resistant to moisture, chemical heat, cold and ultraviolet radiation.

Silicone painting medium
Put on your gloves and pour or squeeze your liquid silicone into your container. The size of your container depends on how much silicone you wish to dye.
Add a small amount of silicone pigment to the container with silicone. Although the amount you add will depend on the pigment you purchase, begin by adding slightly less than the directions on the pigment container advise.
Mix the silicone and pigment together with your stirring stick. Combine the two materials until the silicone has the consistent colour you're looking for. Add more pigment if you'd like a deeper colour, but do this gradually; remember that you can't remove the dye once you've added it.
Put on your gloves and clean the solid silicone surface with a clean cloth and acetone. Remove any dirt or dust that may be on the surface. Allow the silicone to dry before you dye it.
Add the silicone paint medium to your container. The amount you use is dependent upon how large the solid silicone surface is. Begin with a smaller amount than what you will likely use; you can always mix more paint medium later.
Add a small amount of silicone pigment to the paint medium. Follow the directions on the pigment packaging, but begin with slightly less pigment than is advised.
Mix the paint medium and pigment with your stir stick. Add more pigment if you'd like a deeper colour.
Apply the dye to the solid silicone surface with a sponge or a paint brush. When using the sponge, use small circular strokes. When using a brush, use smooth up and down strokes. One coat of dye will be enough to coat the silicone.
