Kohler shower temperature regulators feature a built-in adjustable stop that helps prevent scalds. The stop is set at a safe temperature, and physically prevents the shower handle from being turned beyond that setting. The accuracy of the setting depends on a constant hot-water temperature from the water heater. If the water heater is replaced, or the thermostat on the water heater is adjusted, it will be necessary to adjust the Kohler shower temperature regulator.

    Minor Adjustment

  1. 1

Rotate the valve stem and collar clockwise to start the flow of hot water.

  2. 2

Turn the setscrew on the temperature regulator collar counterclockwise to increase the maximum water temperature or clockwise to decrease the maximum water temperature.

  3. 3

Turn the setscrew until the desired temperature is reached. Rotate the valve stem and collar counterclockwise to shut off the water.

  4. 4

Install the faceplate and screws. Install the adaptors, inserts and sleeves in the proper order. Install the handle and retaining screw.

  3. 3

Slide the collar onto the valve stem with the setscrew seated against the tab on the regulator housing. Slide the O-ring onto the valve stem until it is seated against the collar.

  4. 4

Turn the valve stem counterclockwise to turn off the water.

  5. 5

Install the faceplate and screws. Install the adaptors, inserts and sleeves in the proper order. Install the handle and retaining screw.

Tips and warnings

  • Adjustments to the maximum water temperature should only be made when the water heater is properly set and has had sufficient time to heat water to its current setting.
  • Excessively hot water can cause severe scalds in a matter of seconds, especially in children.
