How to Make an Easy Cape

Children love to put on a cape and disappear into their imaginations. From royalty to warriors and superheroes, boys and girls can turn a simple cape into a wide variety of personalities and stories. A cape is simple to make, and your child will get immense joy and fun from it. The process takes only a few minutes, and you can even involve your child in the construction of his new gateway into adventure.

  • Measuring tape
  • Marker
  • Newspaper
  • Scissors
  • Felt
  • Ribbon

    Measure your child to determine the measurements of the cape. This includes the distance from the back of her neck to the floor, the width of her neck and the distance from shoulder to shoulder.

    Tape newspaper together to form one large piece. Draw the outline of your cape on this newspaper, based on the measurements you have taken.

    Pin the newspaper pattern to your felt and cut it out. You can cut slits in the bottom of the cape or cut other designs into the cape as you desire.

    Cut slots in the top of the cape and push the ribbon through it. Tie the ribbon by draping it over his shoulders and behind his back.
