The messaging and conferencing software Skype lets you type messages in individual conversations and group chat rooms. If you type a message that has an error or requires additional information, Skype lets you edit or delete any message posted to the chat window. After you edit the message, the post automatically changes on the message window and displays a pen icon to let your contact know you made a change. Although Skype lets you edit messages you send, it doesn't let you edit the messages your contacts' posts.

Open the Skype conversation window in which you need to edit a posted message. You can double-click a contact's name in your contacts list to reopen a closed chat window if needed.
Locate the post you wish to edit in the chat window. Drag the scroll bar on the right side of the window upward to locate earlier messages if necessary.
Right-click the posted message and select "Edit Message." Skype then displays your posted message in the text box, where you can delete text or type any additional information. Press "Enter" to send the edited post and to let your contact view the new message. Right-click a posted message and select "Remove Message" to delete it from the conversation entirely.
