A new guitarist may encounter difficulty when learning the notes of a guitar. If you wish to provide a "cheat sheet" for yourself, add fret markers or note symbols to the guitar using stickers. While many commercial fret stickers consist of fret, note or scale markers, other consist of artistic designs. If you prefer to avoid purchasing commercial stickers, create your own fret stickers using an image-editing program and sticker paper.

Instructions

  1. 1

Measure the width of your guitar's neck using measuring tape.

  2. 2

Create a sticker that features the desired symbols, if necessary. Open an image-editing program such as GIMP, CorelDRAW or Photoshop. Click on the "File" button and scroll to "New". Click on the "Image" button and click on the "Size" box. Enter the width in the "Width" box and enter any desired length. Press "OK".

  3. 3

Draw the desired symbol or symbols for the first fret at the top of the canvas. Use the "Brush", "Pencil" and "Shape" tools to create the symbols. Move your cursor slightly below the first set of symbols and draw a second set of symbols. Repeat this process as desired. Each set of symbols should rest on the same horizontal line, moving from left to right.

  4. 4

Print the stickers. Insert Sticker paper into the printer and press the keys "Ctrl" and "P". At the Printer pop-up window, press "OK". Cut out each set of symbols using a pair of scissors. Each set of symbols consists of the symbols for one guitar fret.

  5. 5

Peel the first sticker from the sticker paper.

  6. 6

Slide the sticker under the guitar strings, over the top fret of the guitar. Align the sticker so that its edge brushes the edge of the guitar.

  7. 7

Pull the sticker downwards until it touches the guitar fret. Slide your finger along the right edge of the sticker to press it into the guitar fret. Slide your finger along the left edge of the sticker.

  8. 8

Remove the second sticker and slide it under the strings, over the second fret of the guitar. Push the sticker against the fret to hold it in place.

  9. 9

Repeat the process for any remaining stickers.

Tips and warnings
