You do not need a special baking pan or exceptional skills to make a memorable cake for a Cookie Monster fan. Create a simple cake design of the Sesame Street character Cookie Monster with round, baked cakes. You will not need to construct towering designs or need to know how to perfectly apply frosting to the cake. The finished Cookie Monster face will have the same bright blue fur and googly eyes as the television character, making it a familiar figure for any Sesame Street follower to recognise your cake design.

  1. 1

Place a piece of waxed paper under the cake, and use the cake as a template to cut out a 9-inch circle out of the waxed paper. Pull the round cutout of waxed paper from under the cake.

  2. 2

Cut a D-shape inside the waxed paper so the leg of the D-shape is 6 inches across and the curve of the D-shape follows the curve of the outside of the circle. This will be the mouth template for the Cookie Monster. Use the scissors to cut the D-shape out of the waxed paper.

  3. 3

Place the waxed paper template on top of the cake.

  4. 4

Spread vanilla icing with a spatula over the open D-shape. Sprinkle cookie crumbs over the icing to create the mouth of the Cookie Monster.

  5. 5

Lift the waxed paper straight up to reveal the black mouth on the cake.

  6. 6

Mix blue food colouring with the remaining cake icing until it reaches the desired bright blue shade. Fill the pastry bag with the star tip with the icing.

  7. 7

Hold the bag perpendicular to the surface of the cake and squeeze the bag gently until a small amount of frosting comes out. Release the pressure on the bag and lift it straight up to deposit a star shape on the cake surface. Cover the top and sides completely with the star shapes to resemble the fur of the Cookie Monster. Alternatively, use a spatula to spread the icing over the top and sides of the cake, carefully avoiding the cookie crumb mouth.

  8. 8

Cut the marshmallow in half, width-wise. Press each half flat. Apply a dab of icing to each of the flattened sides of the marshmallow.

  9. 9

Press the two marshmallow halves on the top of the cake for the whites of the eyes.

  10. 10

Attach the miniature chocolate sandwich cookies to the dab of icing on each of the marshmallows for the pupils of the eyes. Lay the optional chocolate chip cookie at the edge of the Cookie Monster's mouth, and serve the cake.
