The Open XML Paper Specification or XPS file format is a specification that allows you to save your documents in a fixed format similar to that of a PDF. However, the XPS format is compatible only with Microsoft software and can be used interchangeably with PDF files. Although you can open it with Microsoft Word, you will need to install a plug-in before you can import the XPS file.
