    Back up any important documents or settings on the computer.

    Insert the installation disk for the Microsoft Office XP Professional suite into the optical drive.

    Click "Run setup.exe" when prompted by the operating system. Alternately, click "Start," select "Computer," navigate to the optical drive and double-click the file name setup.exe to launch the installation program.

    Enter the 25-character alphanumeric key code, which will be on a sticker inside the installation disk's case or inside the manual that came with your copy of Microsoft Office. Click "Next" to continue.
