How to Update the Acer BIOS on an Aspire 5100

Updated July 19, 2017

The BIOS of your Acer Aspire 5100 is the system firmware that controls the basic operation of the hardware. Acer has the ability to update this firmware through downloadable upgrades. BIOS upgrades might resolve issues that are discovered in a computer after it is released or add support for new hardware such as larger hard drives or additional memory. If you are experiencing a problem with your Acer Aspire 5100 or simply want to make sure that you are running the latest firmware available, download and run the BIOS upgrade.

Navigate in your Web browser to the Downloads and Support Documents page at Acer's website (support.acer.com).

Click "Notebook," "Aspire" and "Aspire 5100" in the navigation menu. Click "Confirm."

Click the green "BIOS" tab.

Click the green button next to the BIOS download that displays the highest version number in the "Version" column. As of 2011, the most recent Acer Aspire 5100 BIOS is version 3.13. Save the file "BIOS_Acer_v3.13_.zip" to the desktop.

Right-click the file "BIOS_Acer_v3.13_.zip," and select "Extract" to unzip the archive.

Right-click the file "cw51313.zip," and select "Extract" to unzip the BIOS upgrade utility.

Double-click the file "flash32.exe" to update the BIOS of your Acer Aspire 5100.
