Whether you need the lyrics to "Afternoon Delight" for karaoke night or you want to educate people about the exact words that John Fogerty was singing in Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Proud Mary," pairing lyrics with a video is a helpful tool. Windows Movie Maker, a part of the Windows Live software package, allows you to add text to video or photos so that you post the lyrics to the new hit song you wrote and upload the video to YouTube, Facebook or Flickr, from within the software.

Instructions

  1. 1

Click the "Add Videos and Photos" button on the "Home" tab of Windows Live Movie Maker. Browse to the video or photos you want to to use with the lyrics. Double-click the file you want to use. Click the "Add Music" button on the "Home" tab if you need to add the song that goes with the lyrics.

  2. 2

Click the "Caption" button on the "Home" tab to add a text box to the video project. You'll see the text in the storyboard section on the right as a pink bar under the photos or video. Audio will be a green bar above photos or video.

  3. 3

Type the lyrics into the caption box that you created. You can use different caption boxes for each section of lyrics. By default Windows Movie Maker creates 7-second effects. Click at the end of the first caption box and click the "Caption" button again to create the next caption box for the next section of lyrics.

  4. 4

Double-click the pink text bar in the storyboard section to open the "Text Tools: Format" section of the menu Ribbon. Change the way the lyrics appear on the screen by choosing one of the options in the "Effects" section. For example, click the "Scroll" effect to make lyrics scroll up the screen as the song plays. Adjust the duration, also in the "Text Tools: Format" tab, to match the length of the song so that the lyrics line up with the audio track.

Tips and warnings

  • Change the mix of audio between the video track and the music track by clicking on the "Project" tab and using the "Audio Mix" slider. More to the left for the video sound and to the right for the music sound.
