Tight-wasted jeans are not only uncomfortable, they may also be unflattering. Losing a few pounds to fit in your jeans is often not an option, especially if you are pregnant. Fortunately, there are a few tricks to stretch the waistband of jeans to make them fit once again.

Wear jeans often, even if uncomfortable. Jeans are made from cotton, which does not stretch easily, but does stretch over time. Also, do lunges and stretches in the jeans to force the material to expand.
Adjust the button, if the button is secured with stitches. (This step will not work for jeans with rivet buttons.) Remove the button and sew it 0.6 cm (1/4 inch) or 1.27 cm (1/2 inch) away. Do not move the button more than 1.27 cm (1/2 inch), or the zipper will not fully zip.
Sew an additional button if the jeans have a rivet button that cannot be removed by cutting the denim. Alternatively, sew an extra hook in the waistband of jeans that fasten via hook. Sew the second button or hook no more than 1.27 cm (1/2 inch) from the original.
Use a rubber or elastic band to fasten the waist without buttoning the jeans. Place the band halfway through the button hole of the jeans. Thread one end of the band through the hole on the other side and pull tight. Fasten the jeans by slipping this loop over the button.
Button the jeans and stretch the waistband over the top of a wooden or other hard board that is approximately 2.5 cm (1 inch) wider than the waistband on the jeans. Leave the jeans on the board for several hours.
Always wash the jeans in cold water and avoid putting the jeans in the dryer. Heat and drying shrink jeans, especially if made of 100 per cent cotton. Hang jeans on a clothes line or lay flat to dry.
