An elegant birthday card is a charming idea for a special birthday, like an 18th, 21st, or other milestone day. You can make your own sophisticated card at home, which will give the card a unique look and save some costs over purchasing a similar item from a card shop. Using materials like calligraphy pens, lace and decorative paper, you can create a custom card that is both fancy and easy to put together.

- Card stock
- Calligraphy pen
- Glue stick
Purchase a piece of decorative card stock from a craft store. Card stock is thick paper similar to the kind used in making professional cards.
Cut the card stock into a rectangle. It can be any size you like, but 10 inches by 8 inches works well.
Fold the card stock in half widthways so it looks like the traditional shape of a greeting card.
Write a birthday message on the inside of the card using a calligraphy pen. Write the message using your best handwriting. The message can be something simple, like "Hope this birthday brings you much joy!"
Coat the outside of the card with a glue stick then press a piece of pretty lace over the glue. Hold down until dry, about 30 seconds. Trim off excess lace so that the edges of the lace line up with the edges of the card.
