TF2 (Team Fortress 2) is an online computer game where groups of up to 32 people at a time can battle each other in a virtual world. These games are hosted on servers, and games often involve custom maps that are created by the TF2 community. To enable players to quickly download custom maps during game play, special configuration of the TF2 server is required; otherwise, it can take several times as long for someone to download a custom map.

Skill level:
Moderately Easy

  1. 1

Log in to your TF2 server, and open the file explorer (Windows Explorer) by right-clicking the "Start" button and selecting the "Explore" option.

  2. 2

Navigate to your server's Web folder (the exact location depends on how you set up your initial TF2 server), and create a new directory under "public_html" called "tf2." Create a new subfolder under "tf2" called "maps."

  3. 3

Navigate to your TF2 game files (the exact location depends on how you set up your initial TF2 server), and in the "cfg" folder, open the "server.cfg" file.

  4. 4

Locate the "sv_downloadurl" variable, and add the following value to it, substituting in the name of your Web server -- that is, for "" you would substitute ""

  5. 5

Locate the "sv_allowdownload" variable, and change its value from "0" to "1," save the "server.cfg" file, and then restart your game server.
