While the Skype instant messenger program allows you to video chat with your friends over the Internet, you may not want all Skype users to always know you have web camera capabilities. This is especially true if you have a built-in camera on your computer that Skype automatically detects. If you want extra privacy when using Skype, you can change the video settings to disable the ability for other users to see that you have a web camera.
- Skill level:
Launch Skype on your computer.
Click "Tools," then click "Options" from the menu.
Click "General" from the left menu, then click the "Video Settings" sub-menu.
Click the "No One" option under "Show that I have video to" setting.
Click the "Save" button to hide your video camera.
