How to Import Patterns Into GIMP

Patterns in GIMP are a great way to personalise your work and set it apart from other designers' graphics. If you want to make a pattern available inside of GIMP, you will need to move it into the directory folder for patterns. This allows you to find and use the pattern in your GIMP projects. Using this method, you can important one or several patterns at once.

    Close GIMP if it is open.

    Open your personal GIMP patterns folder. By default, this is located at "C:\Users[username].gimp-2.6\patterns."

    Locate the pattern you want to import into GIMP.

  4. 4

    Copy or move the pattern into the GIMP patterns folder found in Step 2.

  5. 5

    Open GIMP. Your pattern is now available for use.

Tips and warnings

  • Don't import custom patterns into the system patterns folder created during installation.
