WordPress is software you can use to create a website or blog. The software allows you to highly customise your website; thousands of plugins and widgets are available for you to use. The standard WordPress installation does not allow your users to upload photos to WordPress; in order to achieve this functionality, you must install two different plugins to your WordPress website. WordPress plugins, like the actual software, are free.

Skill level:
Moderately Challenging

  1. 1

    Log into your WordPress account.

  2. 2

Click "Plugins" on the left hand toolbar and then click "Add New."

  3. 3

Type "NextGEN" into the plugins search box and then click "Search Plugins."

  4. 4

Click "Install Now" next to the NextGEN Gallery plugin.

  5. 5

Wait for the installation to complete and then click "Activate."

  6. 6

Repeat steps 2 through 5. However, instead of NextGEN, install NextGEN Public Uploader.

  7. 7

Click "Dashboard" and then click "Widgets." Drag the NextGEN widget to the sidebar on the right.

Tips and warnings

  • Make sure you install NextGEN Gallery AND NextGEN Public Uploader; the NextGEN Public Uploader will not work without NextGEN Gallery.
