How to get the tumblr follow code
You can use basic HTML to create a link to your Tumblr. (Comstock/Comstock/Getty Images)

Tumblr doesn't have a special code to enable users from other websites to follow your blog. Instead, to direct users to follow your blog you need one URL:, where "username" is your user name. You can create a text link or you can create an image link that leads them back to the follow page. You can use whatever follow button you want when creating an image link, including one you made yourself.

  1. 1

Add the HTML for a link "<a href="">" and enter your follow URL between the two quotation marks, i.e. "<a href="">" -- the "http://" is necessary for the link to work.

  2. 2

Enter the text you want for your link, such as "Follow Me on Tumblr." At this point your code will look like "<a href="">Follow Me on Tumblr".

  3. 3

Close the link tag with "</a>." The final HTML for the whole link will be: "<a href="">Follow Me on Tumblr</a>".

  1. 1

Begin your code with the link to your follow page, "<a href="">".

  2. 2

Upload an image to use as your follow image; if you do not have your own Web space you can use a service such as Photobucket to host your image.

  3. 3

Enter the image code ("<img src="imageurl" />") directly after the link code, so that it looks like "<a href=""><img src="imageurl" />" with "imageurl" being the URL for the image you've already uploaded.

  4. 4

Close the link with "</a>". You final image code will look like "<a href=""><img src="imageurl" /></a>".

Tips and warnings

  • Tumblr's "Goodies" page offers a script that allows you to embed your Tumblr blog into another website.
  • If you're looking for a button that looks more "official" for your Tumblr link, consider using one of the share buttons that Tumblr recently launched.
