Cupcakes make fun, colourful subjects for drawing. The basic outline of a cupcake may be adorned with bright, sugary sprinkles or festive confetti. Drawings of cupcakes make great studies for still-life food art. They also work well as decoration for homemade greeting cards and scrap book pages. If you're drawing a cupcake for a birthday card decoration, simply add a candle on top. Make sure the candle stays even and straight to keep your drawing symmetrical.

Things you need
- Straight edge
Draw a long, straight vertical line. Use your straight edge to keep this line balanced and even.
At the base of this line, draw a short, downward curving line. Keep this line symmetrical on both sides of the vertical line. This line forms the bottom of the cupcake.
Draw a second, slightly longer line about halfway up the vertical line. Make this curve downward like the bottom of the cupcake. Use the vertical line to keep this curved line symmetrical.
Connect the left ends of the two curved lines with a diagonal line. Since the top curved line is longer than the bottom, this diagonal should point upward and to the left from the bottom of the cupcake. Repeat this step on the right side. The line on the right should point upward and to the right from the bottom. This forms the outline of the cupcake wrapper. Make sure this shape remains symmetrical on the right and left sides.
Draw eight evenly spaced, vertical lines inside of the cupcake wrapper to represent the folds of the wrapper.
Connect the right and left ends of the top of the wrapper with a large semicircle. Make this semicircle arch upward. This represents the top of the cupcake. Keep this line symmetrical on both sides of the vertical line.
Erase the vertical line. Draw five or six small, loose curved lines inside of the semicircle to form the swirls of icing on the cupcake.
