Dreamweaver is an Adobe product that enables you to build and manage Web pages. The interface allows you to import multimedia items to your Web pages. You can import objects of varying formats, including Java applets, ActiveX and plug-ins. Dreamweaver generates the code required for embedding the media in your page. Instructions

  1. 1

Open your Web page in Adobe Dreamweaver.

  2. 2

Select "Insert," select "Media" and select "ActiveX." Click "OK." The "<object>" code is inserted. Set the width and height in the "Properties" panel to "300" and "45," respectively. Click the "ClassID" drop-down, and select the "clsid:22D6F312-B0F6-11D0-94AB-0080C74C7E95" option.

  3. 3

Select "Insert," select "Media" and select "Plugin." Double-click the MP3 file. The "<embed>" code is inserted into your page.

  4. 4

Click the "Parameters" button in the "Properties" panel. Insert "type" in the "Parameter" field, and click the "Value" field. Insert "application/x-mplayer2."

  5. 5

Click the plus sign to add another line, and type "autostart" in the "Parameter" field. Click the "Value" field, and type "false" to prevent your MP3 from playing automatically on page load.

  6. 6

Click the plus sign to add another line, and type "pluginspage" in the "Parameter" field. Enter the value "http://www.Microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download." Click "OK."

  7. 7

Set the width and height in the "Properties" panel to "250" and "45," respectively. Move the embed code between the start and end "<object></object>" tags:

    <object...><embed...></embed></object>

  8. 8

Copy the "src" filename value from the "<embed>" tag. Place your cursor before the end "</object>" tag. Click the "Common" tab on the "Insert" panel. Click the "Media" drop-down, and choose "param." Enter "Filename" in the "Name" field. Paste the MP3 source file name you copied into the "Value" field. Click "OK."

  9. 9

Click the "param" button again, enter "autostart" in the "Name" field, and enter "false" in the "Value" field. Click "OK." The embed code is defined for Mozilla-based browsers and the "param" code for Internet Explorer.

Tips and warnings

  • The interface instructions give you an idea of what Dreamweaver is doing. However, it is more efficient in the case of MP3s to copy the code below and replace the "src" and "Filename" values with those of your MP3 file. This code is representative of the code Dreamweaver would generate using the steps given above:
