Over time, the DC power jack of the Dell Vostro 1510 laptop has a tendency to come loose from the motherboard. If so, it must be replaced for the laptop to work properly. Instructions

  1. 1

Turn off the Dell Vostro 1510 laptop. Unplug the power cord from the electrical socket before attempting to replace the DC power jack. Remove the power cord from the DC power jack in the back of the laptop, then turn the laptop over so you are looking at the bottom of the case.

  2. 2

Remove the battery pack from the battery bay. Unfasten all the screws on the bottom of the case with a screwdriver. Take the hard drive out of the case and unfasten the screws that secure the hinges to the laptop case with a screwdriver. Gently flip the laptop back over so it is sitting upright.

  3. 3

Open the display cover, and separate the cover from the base. Set the cover down, and lift the top half of the laptop base away from the bottom of the laptop.

  4. 4

Flip the keyboard over so it is sitting on the palm rest face down with the flat ribbon cable still connected. Lift the metal plate off the motherboard, and disconnect the display cover flat ribbon cable connector from the motherboard.

  5. 5

Set the display cover out of the way. Remove the DC power jack from the back of the laptop base with a pair of needle nose pliers, which in turn will lift the power jack out of the socket. Place a drop of superglue on the bottom of the new DC power jack, then set the jack into the socket in the laptop base.

  6. 6

Plug the display cover flat ribbon cable connector into the motherboard and set the metal plate back onto the motherboard. Place the keyboard back into position. Set the top half of the laptop base onto the bottom of the base.

  7. 7

Place the display cover back onto the base. Carefully turn the laptop back over so you are looking at the bottom of the case. Fasten the screws into the hinges to secure the display cover to the base, then slide the hard drive back into the laptop case. Secure all the screws into the bottom of the case.

  8. 8

Plug the battery pack into the battery bay. Flip the laptop back over so it is sitting upright. Plug the power cord into the new DC power jack, then plug the other end into an electrical socket.
