When you are chatting via text with other Skype users, they can see your Skype icon. Depending on your previous choices, this icon may be a small picture of you, one of Skype's default icons or something else entirely. If your current Skype icon no longer suits you, you can change it with just a few clicks. You don't even need to interrupt your chat session to do this.

Instructions

  1. 1

Click on your name, located near the top of the left panel in the Skype window. This changes the right portion of the window to show your top contacts and it allows you to update your mood message as well.

  2. 2

Click the "Profile" tab that is now visible on the right side of the Skype screen. This displays your profile information.

  3. 3

Click "Choose picture from file" in the "Picture" section of your profile page. This opens a window that allows you to browse through the files on your computer.

  4. 4

Navigate to the picture that you want to use as your Skype icon. Click this picture and then click "Open." This changes your Skype icon to the picture you just selected.

Tips and warnings

  • If you want to change your Skype icon to a current picture of yourself, click "Take a snapshot" instead of "Choose picture from file." This allows you to take a snapshot of yourself using your webcam, if your system is equipped with one.
