Fireworks CS4 is a hybrid graphics program that can work on both vector and bitmap images. This capability makes it somewhat similar to a desktop publishing application like QuarkXPress. When you place a bitmap grpagis like a photo or clip art into a Fireworks CS4 document, you can edit it in many ways. One thing you might want to do with it is to cutout a portion.

Skill level:

  1. 1

Start Fireworks CS4. Select "File" from the menu and choose "Open." In the dialogue, browse to and open a Fireworks document containing an image you want cut up.

  2. 2

Go to the toolbar on the left and choose the "Lasso" tool. Use it to draw a selection of the part you want to cut out and keep.

  3. 3

Select "Select" from the menu at the top and choose "Select Inverse." Click "Delete" on your keyboard to remove the unwanted part. Save your work.
