How to Turn Up the Volume on an Apple iPod Shuffle Without Headphones

Updated February 21, 2017

If you have been using the optional Apple Earphones with a remote and mic to listen to songs on your iPod shuffle, a portable music player made by Apple, you might have become accustomed to changing the volume with the earphones' volume control buttons. If you don't have those separately purchased headphones now, and are using the plain headphones with no control buttons that came free with the device, you can still adjust the volume, by pressing a button on the front of the iPod shuffle.

Hold the iPod shuffle in one hand.

Use your other hand to slide the three-way switch on the top of the iPod shuffle from the right "Off" position" to left to the "On" position to turn it on.

Locate the "Plus" and "Minus" buttons on the front of the device.

Press the "Plus" button repeatedly to turn up the volume.
