The Cisco PIX 515E is a piece of computer hardware that protects against malicious attacks against your network. Each Cisco device, including the PIX 515E, has built-in software that lets the network administrator make configuration changes. Should a configuration change be entered that needs to be altered at a later date, the network administrator can access the PIX 515E device and perform a factory settings reset.

Skill level:

  1. 1

Access the Cisco PIX 515E device using a terminal console. Enter the device's network address and click "OK."

  2. 2

Type your username and password into the console. This needs to be an account with elevated privileges. Click "OK."

  3. 3

Type into the console the following line:

    "configure factory-default [ip_address [mask]]"

Where ip_address and mask are the address and subnet mask of the Cisco PIX 515E.

  4. 4

Reboot the Cisco PIX 515E device to complete the reset procedure.
