Webcams enable people from around the world to visually see each other during a conversation. Many services, such as Skype, allow people to chat for free from anywhere on the globe by using a webcam. Occasionally, an image may come through blurry on a webcam. You can follow a few simple steps to boost the image quality of your webcam. This will let your friends and family see you more clearly as you have a video chat conversation over the Internet.

Skill level:
Moderately Easy

  1. 1

Boost your Internet connection speed. Webcam images often become blurry due to a slow Internet connection. Turn off other wireless devices in your network and devote the full network resources to the computer in question. This will enhance your webcam quality.

  2. 2

Download the latest drivers. A driver update can increase the quality of your webcam image. Further, download the latest software for your video chat service. Both of these steps can increase your webcam video quality.

  3. 3

Physically clean the webcam. Dirt, dust, grime and other obstructions can decrease your webcam quality. Use a dry cloth to wipe the lens of your webcam. This can increase your video quality.

  4. 4

Adjust your webcam settings. Either use the video chat software or your computer's control panel to access the properties for your webcam. Tinker with the settings to optimise your video quality. Brightness, contrast, hue, saturation and a slew of other settings can be altered. Hit "Save" to keep your new settings active.
