A wax bottle may also be called a drip candle bottle, and this craft uses candle wax to give a glass bottle a unique artistic look. While you can use any glass bottle for this craft project, a wine bottle, with its tapered neck and cylindrical body is a good choice, as it shows off the wax to its best advantage. Make a wax bottle as a centrepiece for your dining room table or as a decoration for your mantleplace.

Instructions

  1. 1

Rub mineral oil onto the label of a wine bottle.

  2. 2

Allow the mineral oil to soak into the label for one hour.

  3. 3

Peel the label off of the surface of the wine bottle. Any traces that cannot be peeled away may be scrubbed away.

  4. 4

    Wash the wine bottle thoroughly.

  5. 5

Spread newspaper on a sturdy flat surface.

  6. 6

Place the wine bottle on the newspaper, sitting upright.

  7. 7

Push the blunt end of an unlit coloured drip candle into the mouth of the wine bottle. Push it in until the candle sits securely in the wine bottle. If necessary, whittle the end of the drip candle down so that it fits well.

  8. 8

Light the candle, allowing the wax to drip down the side of the glass bottle. The wax sticks to the wine bottle.

  9. 9

Blow out the fire and remove the candle when wax coats the bottle.

  10. 10

Repeat steps 7 through 9 with different colours of wax to create a multicoloured effect.
