Anyone over the age of 13 can create a free Facebook account, opening up communication with over 600 million other users worldwide. To close your account, you can either disable it, which takes it offline indefinitely, or request Facebook to delete your account permanently. Taking it offline means you can restore all your information and start using Facebook again at any time.
Log in to your Facebook account.
Click "Account," located at the top-right of the Facebook page, and select "Account Settings" from the drop-down menu.
Click "Deactivate" near the bottom of the list of settings.
Select a reason for leaving and click the box if you don't want to receive any more e-mails from Facebook.
Click "Confirm" to deactivate your account.
Go to the Facebook Help Center's "Delete My Account" page and click "Submit" to request Facebook remove your account permanently.
