Feathered Indian headdresses are fun and easy to make at home, and can be worn for a costume party or Halloween costume. You can also create headdresses for your kids to wear while playing dress-up or for a school pageant. Using some scrap strands of ribbon or leather, ribbons and beads, you can easily make your own headdress at home.

  1. 1

Tie the ends of your eight pieces of ribbon or leather cord to a sturdy surface like a chair leg.

  2. 2

Weave the pieces together until you reach the end. Then, secure them with a square knot.

  3. 3

Tie a square knot by holding half of the pieces of cord or ribbon in one hand and the rest in the other. Pass the bundle in your right hand over and then under the bundle in your left hand, creating an overhand knot. The bunches should now be in opposite hands than they started in. Repeat, but this time pass the cords in your left hand over the cords in your right hand. Pull the knot taut to secure.

  4. 4

Set the strap out in front of you and weave each feather into the top. Take the quill of the feather and weave it in and out between the eight pieces of cord or ribbon until it is securely attached to the strap. Repeat until you have added as many feathers as you want.

  5. 5

Lay the feathered headdress in front of you on a table. Arrange the beads along the band. Thread the needle with the nylon thread, then sew each bead into place. Secure the thread with a knot once you are finished.

  6. 6

Tie the headdress around your forehead to ensure that it fits.
