Gum Paste is a sweet, edible decorating product used for moulding flowers and other figures for celebratory cakes. Though frosting can help gum paste items stay on top of a cake, gum paste decorations are too heavy to stick to the sides of a cake using this method. For this reason, decorators often add floral wires to gum paste items to help them stay in place on elaborate wedding cakes and other fancy baked goods.

Things you need
- Floral wire
Mold gum paste into the desired shape.
Stick a floral wire through the bottom of the flower, like a stem, while the gum paste is still soft.
Press and twist the bottom of the flower in place around the wire. Repeat this process with the rest of the flowers and allow the paste to dry. Unlike fondant and marzipan, gum paste will dry hard and crisp.
Wrap the flower stems around each other to create a flower cluster arrangement.
Insert the wire into your cake.
