Asking a girl out for the first time is a stressful experience. When you ask a girl out on a date, there are a number of possible responses that can be given, and not all of them are pleasant. If you are interested in a girl and want to invite her out with you, text messages provide a slightly less stressful method for taking the initial plunge. A text message could also help a shy girl respond, depending on how comfortable she feels when talking to you in person.
- Skill level:
Hold a few short conversations with the girl you like in person. You need to look for visual hints of her interest, which you might not be able to pick up over text. Strong eye contact, giggling and blushing are all indicators that she feels the same way as you.
Send friendly texts to the girl and wait for a response. Some girls give you their number to be polite but have no intentions of following up. Send one text -- if she is interested, she will respond. If you do not get a response, try again in a couple of days but be careful not to overdo it.
Start a light conversation after a few days of texting. Make a joke or compliment her on something she was wearing that day. Put her in a positive mindset.
Ask her out. Be specific and have a plan. For example, send a text that says, "Let's go to the park on Friday," instead of "Would you like to go out sometime?" A strong plan shows you are decisive and limits the amount of back and forth necessary to plan a date.
Plan your first date as an activity. You cannot really get to know someone at a movie, and dinner hinges entirely on conversation that can lead to awkward moments. Activities provide you with something to talk about while you get to know each other. Go bowling, ice skating, rock climbing or to a museum.
Tips and warnings
- Some girls view a text-message date request as an indicator that you are low on confidence. Asking a girl out in person is usually a better method, although the risk of rejection seems much more real.
