How to Kill Msiexec.EXE

Msiexec.exe is a processes belonging to the Microsoft Corporation. More specifically, the process is used by the Windows Installer program. Windows Installer is a service that allows users to install, uninstall and configure software programs. The service is included with the Windows operating system. Killing the msiexec.exe process will prevent Windows Installer from working properly. Thus, it is not recommended. Nevertheless, the process can be killed, also known as disabled, using the Windows Command Prompt.

    Click "Start," type "cmd" into the search field and press "Enter" to open the Command Prompt.

    Type the following command into the Command Prompt and press "Enter."

    taskkill msiexec.exe

  3. 3

    Type the following command into the Command Prompt and press "Enter." The command closes the Command Prompt.
