"Counter-Strike: Source" ports the original "Half-Life" modification "Counter-Strike" to the "Source" engine. This engine provides updated features and graphics when compared to the original mod. Valve Software released "Counter-Strike: Source," commonly abbreviated to "CSS," in November 2004. In addition to being able to customise graphical and audio settings, you can also change other elements of the game such as the crosshairs. One element of the crosshairs you can change is the size. Some players prefer larger crosshairs, while others prefer smaller ones.

Click "Options." This opens the "Options" window.

  3. 3

    Click the "Multiplayer" tab.

  4. 4

Click the first drop-down box under "Crosshair Appearance." Select the size you want. You can choose from "Auto-size," "Small," "Medium" and "Large." You can preview the crosshair size in the small window directly to the left of the drop-down boxes.

    Custom Crosshair Sizes

  1. 1

    Launch "Counter-Strike: Source."

  2. 2

    Click "Options." Click "Advanced."

  3. 3

Check the box beside "Enable Developer Console." Click "OK," then "Apply."

  4. 4

Press the tilde key. This is the key with the wavy line on it at the top left corner of your keyboard, normally under the "Esc" key. This opens the developer console.

  5. 5

Type "cl_legacy_crosshair_scale 1" into the developer console and press "Enter." Type "cl_crosshairscale XXXX" where the XXXX is a four-digit integer. Use integers from 1000 to 9999. The larger the integer, the smaller the crosshair. Press "Enter" after entering a new integer.

Tips and warnings

  • You can change the crosshair size at any time during the game by re-entering the "Options" menu. You can also open the developer console while you are in games. After entering "cl_legacy_crosshair_scale 1" you no longer have to enter that each time. You only need to use "cl_crosshairscale" after that. You can also change other values such as the crosshair's colour from the "Options" menu.
