Louis Vuitton has become synonymous with quality and luxury in the handbag world. Whether your piece is a new Mahina leather shoulder bag or a vintage monogram bucket bag, it is made from quality products -- including vachetta leather. Vachetta is a type of untreated leather used to make the handles and tags of your Louis Vuitton bag, and proper cleaning will prevent unsightly water marks.

Skill level:

Things you need

  • Soft cloths
  • Plain water
  • 1/2 teaspoon saddle soap
  • Leather conditioner

  1. 1

Soak a soft cloth with water and wring out until damp.

  2. 2

Add 1/2 teaspoon of saddle soap to the damp cloth. Rub the cloth against itself until the saddle soap begins to lather.

  3. 3

Work the saddle soap into the Louis Vuitton handle, using overlapping circles, until both sides of the handle are clean.

  4. 4

Soak a second soft cloth with water and wring out until damp.

  5. 5

Wipe off the saddle soap with the damp cloth.

  6. 6

Place the purse in a cool, dry place until the handle is completely dry.

  7. 7

Cover the handle of the bag with a layer of leather conditioner to restore the leather and help prevent any cracks from exposure to heat or moisture.
