Vuze is an application created to ease the transfer of bittorrent files. The application allows users to search for and sort their torrent files. It is a peer-to-peer application. Because of the peer-to-peer nature of the file transfers, you can experience a range of transfer speeds. While much of your transfer speed is dependent upon those transferring the torrents, and thus out of your control, you can tweak your Vuze settings to optimise it for the fastest possible torrent downloads.

Click "Tools." Click "Options" from the drop-down menu. A new "Options" window opens.

  2. 2

Click "Advanced" under "User Proficiency." This enables more settings that you can change in order to increase your torrent downloading speeds.

  3. 3

Click "Transfer" in the menu on the left side of the "Options" window. This provides you with a full-page of options related to the transfer of torrent files.

  4. 4

Enter a maximum upload speed. Your Internet connection provides you with a set maximum download speed and a set maximum upload speed. Often, the upload speed is much lower than the download speed. If there is a "0" in the "KB/s global max upload speed" box, then you upload torrents at your maximum bandwidth. If your connection maxes its upload speed, your download speed is lowered. Try setting the upload speed at a relatively low level, such as "10," and increasing it from there based on your connection's performance.

  5. 5

Set your "KB/s global max download speed" to "0." This sets your download speed to unlimited, meaning your download speed is now capped only by your connection speed and the transfer speed of the peers from whom you receive the torrents.

  6. 6

Click in the "Automatically adjust these settings based on connect speed" box to uncheck it. Increase the values of both "Max connections per torrent default" and "Max connections globally" in increments of 25. This increases the number of peers to whom you can connect. Increasing the number of possible connections can increase your transfer speeds.

  7. 7

    Click "Apply."

Tips and warnings

  • Close any other programs using your Internet bandwidth.
  • Do not enable an unlimited number of connections. Too many connections can slow transfer speeds as well as slow your overall Internet connection speeds.
