Many different types of file compression formats exist, including .ace. Ubuntu can open and extract many types of compression formats. Older versions of Ubuntu do not come with the software necessary to extract .ace files. However, Ubuntu 11.04 has the necessary program preinstalled to extract the .ace compression format from the command line.

Skill level:

  1. 1

    Open "Terminal."

  2. 2

Type "unace x <filename>.ace", replacing "<filename>" with the actual .ace filename.

  3. 3

    Press "Enter."

Tips and warnings

  • If you have an older version of Ubuntu, you need to install the "Unace" program, which you can find in the Universe software repository. Enabling the repository and downloading the program require different procedures for different Ubuntu versions. Check Ubuntu's Repositories Web page for instructions for your version of the operating system.
